Halibut Cove
Halibut Cove is a small community of artists and fishermen nestled in a small cove off the south side of Kachemak Bay near Homer, Alaska. There are no roads into the lodge or the rest of the community; around here Kachemak Bay is the highway. The 20 minute boat ride from Homer to the lodge alone is worth the trip to Alaska. The bay is filled with marine wildlife and migratory birds that are rarely found anywhere else in the world. There will be no problem seeing Bald Eagles or other wildlife because they flourish here. And the mountains surrounding the bay set a picturesque backdrop.

The Lodge
There will be no "ruffing it" at the Halibut Cove Lodge. The service, accommodations, and dinning were all first class. When you step off the boat to the lodge you'll be greeted by the lodge staff and shown to your private cabin. The gourmet meals and other activities are all scheduled around your timetable. Want breakfast in bed or dinner on the deck overlooking the bay, no problem. The staff really pays attention to detail and makes you feel welcomed and at home. Personally, I have never been so relaxed in my life. The air is fresh, the water is pure, and the wildlife is just out the front door.

The Activities
The Halibut Cove Lodge is perfect for just kicking back and relaxing. The area around Halibut Cove is filled with little islands and coves to look at and explore, so taking a little stroll along the beach was one of my favorite things to do at the lodge. If you get a little more adventurous, wich I recommend getting, then everything from sea kayaking to taking a day hike to a glacier is open to do. Also, don't forget the world class fishing or the helicopter bear viewing trips. There are so many unique things to do at the Halibut Cove Lodge that whatever you do you will be left with memories you'll cherish for the rest of your life.

How To Plan
The first thing you'll need to do is contact The Halibut Cove Lodge and set up a reservation. The best way to reach them is through their website at www.halibutcovelodge.com, click on reservations or use their contact information to call them. Then buy a plane ticket to Anchorage, most of the major airlines fly into Anchorage. From Anchorage you'll need to fly on Era Aviation to Homer. Era Aviation is the Alaskan airline that flies throughout the state. Reservations for Era Aviation can be made on their website at www.eraaviation.com. Once you arrive in Homer it is just a short distance to the harbor. The Halibut Cove Lodge will already have your boat ride, from the harbor to the lodge, set up for you. We rode with Mako's water taxi. Mako is a local who takes the time to tell you all about the wildlife and the surrounding area while you're making the trip to the lodge.
